Reamer Tool
Determine the pre-drill size based on the final reamer diameter and material type.
Adjust Feed & Speed to fix oversize or undersize holes.
Rules of Thumb
Speeds & Feeds
- Speed: Use 1/2 to 2/3 the speed of a drill for the same material.
- Feed: Use 2x to 3x the feed rate of a drill for the same material.
Operation Tips
- Never Reverse: Turning a reamer backward will dull the cutting edges instantly.
- Chip Removal: Use plenty of coolant to flush chips and prevent clogging.
General Guidelines
Reaming is a finishing process. Leaving too much material leads to poor finish and tool breakage; leaving too little causes the reamer to rub and burnish rather than cut.
| Diameter Range | Allowance (in) |
|---|
Troubleshooting
- Hole Oversize? Decrease Speed (RPM) or Increase Feed.
- Hole Undersize? Increase Speed (RPM) or Decrease Feed.
- Poor Finish? Check for chips in flutes or increase lubrication.
Note: Tougher materials generally require a smaller allowance to reduce the cutting pressure on the reamer.
